5 Best Engagement Session Locations in San Diego

I have been there, shot that—all around Southern California. Here, in no particular order, I have pared down the top five engagement shoot locations every San Diego couple should consider as a backdrop before their big day and, perhaps, for their save the dates!

Balboa Park

From the museums and Spanish architecture to a Japanese garden and water features aplenty, anywhere you turn there is a shot to be taken in Balboa Park. Being one of San Diego’s top destinations for the locals and tourists to explore and relax, there is never a shortage of spots for portraits.

San Diego County Fair

Photographing couples at the San Diego County Fair is always fun. There are crazy hard games to play, nail-biting rides and, of course, not-so-healthy (albeit photogenic) treats. And, when the sun goes down, the lights from the rides and food stands illuminate the sky which translates to really creative shots.

Old Town

A spot with Hispanic culture and some San Diego history, Old Town and Heritage County Park are great locations, because you basically get two locations in one. Old Town is filled with interesting little shops to roam through and restaurants filled with mariachi music and massive margaritas—all colorful backdrops and a relaxed atmosphere to capture candid moments. At the adjacent Heritage Park, you will find an assortment of well-preserved Victorian homes of different size, colors, and textures—perfect for wide shots and close ups alike.

Sunset Cliffs

One of my favorite spots in San Diego to photograph a beach-themed engagement session, Sunset Cliffs has sandy beaches, rocks to roam on, and a ca-n’t-be-beat sunset. As a photographer, it gives me different options for backdrops and, depending on the weather, pretty amazing photos as well.

Downtown San Diego

Downtown San Diego gives that urban vibe, with unlimited backdrops and cool textures to place couples in front of: Petco Park, The Gaslamp Quarter, the convention center, the waterfront, and more.
